Creamy Chai Iced Tea

Creamy Chai Iced Tea

Total Time: 45 minutes
Serves 4

  • 4 c water
  • 4 Chai tea bags
  • 8 Tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 oz light rum, optional

In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil.  Remove from heat, add tea bags, and let steep for 10 minutes; discard the bags and let the tea cool.  Serve over ice and top off each glass with 2 Tbsp sweetened condensed milk.  Add 1 oz (2 Tbsp) light rum to each drink before serving.

I do not remember this recipe taking 45 minutes.  But I’m pretty sure I didn’t let the tea cool for very long.  That sounds like me.  Plus, the detective in me noticed there are no ice cubes in that shot above.

I’m pretty sure this was the first time I’ve ever had Chai tea.  It smells and taste so warm (yes, even though this particular drink was served cold) and comforting.  Makes me think of fall fading into winter.

Overall the recipe was pretty good.  I’ll probably add more sweetened condensed milk (and rum for that matter!) next time.  I’m one of those types, that if I drank coffee, you’d be asking me if I’d like coffee with my sugar.

And again, I apologize for the photo.  Apparently I cannot take pictures of drinks, as also evidenced here.  The picture in the magazine (Real Simple of course!) was way cool and more appetizing.  Probably could’ve gotten close to it if I’d done an action shot of pouring the milk into the tea.  Ah, so much I have yet to learn.

Speaking of fall and winter, are there any recipes you are looking forward to with fall just around the corner?
